Christmas Holiday Security Checklist
Are your strata and commercial buildings holiday ready?
Here are some important items you should check as we go into the festive season!
Holiday Periods & Public Holiday Schedules
Every year the holiday schedules need to be set based on when your commercial tenants are shutting down and if your building increases security when less people are around. Have you organised your security team to update the public holidays?
If you have auto doors that open during business hours or areas that are open for commercial purposes then you may need to update your Christmas holiday schedules. Some of these you can do remotely like using CXI Cloud, others you will need to do onsite. Talk to your security technician company to find out if you need to update your holiday schedules.
After-Hours services & Emergency requests
Murphy’s Law states that “if things can go wrong, they will go wrong” and the same applies to security. Things like:
Dead Batteries
lightning strikes
people driving into roller doors
rowdy tenants breaking exit buttons
Excessive heat; and
flooding
are all scenarios that we’ve experienced over Christmas that can’t be predicted.
Having a security company that is available when issues happen makes all the difference, ESPECIALLY on public holidays!

Back to Base (B2B) Monitoring tests
If you have a break-in will your security system effectively report alarms? If you get regular maintenance then this is something that we check for but if your building hasn’t had a test in a while then conducting a “walk-test” is an essential process.
Running a walk-test is easy to do. Simply call your monitoring center, put your site on test, arm it then walk around. After you set everything off, make sure the monitoring center has all your devices reporting alarms.

CCTV Recording checks
Christmas is the busiest time for thieves with package thefts and break-ins at an all-time high.
The worst thing is when something happens and your CCTV system hasn’t been recording properly!
Before everyone goes on holidays, have your building managers check your CCTV system and make sure it’s recording effectively and get any issues fixed before it’s too late.
